Debutante actor Imran Khan is stepping on his uncles’ footsteps and wanting to turn into a director. Imran, who takes his bow on silver screen in "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" releasing next month, says he aspires to be a director.
"I never wanted to be an actor as I never considered myself as a commercial Hindi film hero because I was too thin. But, I liked Abbas Tyrewala`s script and connected myself to it because it was very unsual role for a typical Hindi film," says the actor.
"The protagonist Jai Singh Rathod is a very normal, simple middle class boy who is raised by his mother with Gandhian principles. Many youngsters will identify with him," says Imran.
Imran describes "Jaane Tu" as a romantic, light- hearted comedy made by young people for the young. "Abbas has included a lot of his own personal experiences and my uncle, Aamir, as a producer, came into the picture much later.
"Earlier, I had told him that I am doing a film. He just asked me if I had liked the script and had confidence in the director. Later, when he took on the film as a producer, myself and other actors had to go through audition again before final selection," he adds.
The young actor, who has already two films in his kitty before his first release, has completed a course in direction from New York Film Academy.
According to Imran, Aamir did not intend to produce the film to launch his career. "As a professional, Aamir does not think emotionally. When Abbas showed him the script, he liked it and when he came to know that this is the film I am doing, he was skeptical whether I could act," Imran exclaims.
"Right now, I am focusing on my acting career and direction has taken a backseat. But after I have gained enough experience as an actor, I plan to take up direction. Any kind of subject will appeal to me provided it is entertaining and a commercial film," he added.
The actor says he was fond of acting but did not see himself as an actor till "Jaane Tu" came his way.
"But I liked direction more. As an actor, I was not sure of myself. But then I realized that all good actors do not have muscular bodies but they are very fine actors," he says.
Only time will unveil this newcomers’ fortune, but guess he has a back-up plan ready already. Good going Imran!
