The director proposes and the star disposes! Abbas Tyrewala was keen that Imran Khan do a cameo in his John Abraham-starrer 1-800-Love. But the Jaane Tu actor had no time for it. As a result, the cameo had to be scrapped.
Tyrewala admits, "I really wanted Imran for the cameo. I had conceived it specially for him along with Genelia D'Souza as part of an engagement party."
Abbas was keen to include Imran in an ensemble song a la Karan Johar's cinema. "Those numbers where suddenly amidst a group of dancers an actor emerges. Like Kajol made an appearance in Kal Ho Naa Ho and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Likewise I had written a sequence featuring Jiggy (Nirav Mehta) who was the only character from Jaane Tu to remain single at the end of the film, and who dreamt of migrating to the US. I relocated Jiggy to London where 1-800-Love is located. That's where during Jiggy's engagement Imran was supposed to show up with Genelia. It would've provided a sense of continuity from my first film to the second."
So what went wrong? Apparently Imran couldn't spare the dates to fly down to London. Says Abbas, "The dates I wanted clashed with Imran's shooting of Delhi Belly. I certainly didn't expect Imran to take chutti from his uncle's production to be in London. So we scrapped the sequence." Abbas however claims there's still much mutual affection between his Jaane Tu star and him.
"As actors, we all want our audience to like our work; so even if you ask me this question after five years I will say yes I want to work harder and harder to be loved by my audience."
